Subject: Summary and Context
In this program, a plump red-headed comes to Sherlock and Watson claiming to have been robbed by a businessman posing as a member of The Red Headed League. After paying him several pounds a day to copy the Encyclopedia Britannica, the the man left town without a trace. After investigating Wilson's shop, Sherlock comes to the climactic conclusion that the men posing as the Red Headed League were distracting Wilson from his shop in order to rob from a bank down the street. They are captured and the day is joyous all around. The 1950s Sherlock Holmes series was 39 half-hour mostly original stories, produced by Sheldon Reynolds[1] and filmed in France by Guild Films, starring Ronald Howard (son of Leslie Howard) as Holmes and Howard Marion Crawford as Watson. It was adapted from the French for American syndication. The show was shot in a studio in Paris, but used very little on-location shots. The series filled a 30 minute time slot and received relatively good feedback and viewership. It aired on CBS monday evenings in 1954
